Onigiri (Rice ball)

onigiri

From quite some time, onigiri has been a main part of the Japanese diet. Made by flavouring cooked rice, then wrapping it around an ingredient like fish, and moulding it into a triangle, onigiri is incredibly efficient, able to be carried in a lunch box to be eaten whenever.

Varieties of Onigiri
・Baked Onigiri
Baked on medium heat. Spreading miso or soy sauce on beforehand enhances the flavour!

・Rolled Onigiri
Wrapped in nori or pickled greens. The style of wrapping differs from area to area.

・Mixed Onigiri
Made by mixing fish roe, small fry, etc. in the rice.
