Wakayama has the number one share in mikan (mandarin orange) and ume (Japanese apricot). Part of Sacred sites and pilgrimage routes in the Kii Mountain Range extends to Wakayama prefecture; Kumano-san, Takano-san, and Kumano Sanhai-dou. Also there are Choho-ji. Zenpuku-in, Konrai-ji, which are the national treasures. Wakayama is famous for its hot spring too and especially Shirahama Hot Spring and Katsuura Hot Spring is famous. "Sanma sushi" and "Mehari suchi" are the famous local food.
