Yamagata

Known as the fruit kingdom, Yamagata produces Sakuranishiki, a type of cherry, and Lafrance, a type of pear. Also, the shogi piece that is produced in Tendo city has the share of 95% in this field. At "Tendo Sakura Festival" in every April, they hold "Human Shogi" that people acts as the shogi piece and plays the game. There are many onsen (hot spring) in Yamagata such as Ginzan onsen and Hijiori Onsen, and there are many people visiting Yamagata for the onsen. Locust boiled in sweetened soy sauce (inago no tsukudani) and thick potato and meat soup (imoni) are the famous local food.
