What is yakitori
Yakitori (焼き鳥 lit. grilled chicken) refers to meat, mainly chicken, which has been cut into bite-size pieces and grilled on bamboo skewers.
Yakitori taste
For flavouring, there are two main options, salt (塩) or tare (タレ), a sauce mixture made from soy sauce, mirin (sweet sake), sake, and sugar. When at a yakitori shop, it is common to choose between the two when ordering, but some items on the menu may only be available with one or the other.
Spices which normally can be added before eating include cayenne pepper powder, shichimi (blend of seven spices), powdered Japanese pepper, wasabi, or regular pepper.
