Dougo Onsen (hot spring)

Dougo Onsen is a hot spring located in Matsuyama city, Ehime, Shikoku Region said to be the Three Oldest Hot Spring in Japan. Its history stretches back about 3000 years being the oldest in Japan. The main building of Dougo Onsen, built in 1894, was a three stories public bathhouse. Today, it is designated as Important Cultural Property from the government.
The hot spring is mentioned in Manyoshu, the oldest collection of waka poems. It is also written in Botchan, a novel written by Souseki Natsume, and gained its popularity. The water is natural spring of alkaline water.
