Wakutama Lake and Mizuya Shrine
- Published 2010.7.13
The Wakutama Lake is supplied with water from Mount Fuji, with the water coming through the many layers of lava that have hardened over time. The lake has even become a natural monument. Above the rocks at the water source is located Mizuya Shrine. People who intend to climb up Mount Fuji consider the lake water to be holy, and perform purification ceremonies with it. On June 30th, when the shrine is opened, a larger divine purification ceremony is performed. The water which flows from the lake runs into Kanda River.
