- Published 2010.7.13
Japanese people are very well-acquainted with the rokujizo (six Ksitigarbhas 六地蔵), the representative of Buddhist statues. The rokujizo consists of six realms, which are hell, hungry ghost, animal, carnage, human, and heaven, and is said to rescue all living creatures from their suffering. Jizo statues are found along roadsides throughout the country, resulting in a large familiarity level.
