Gifu

Gifu, where there are many mountains such as Hida Mountains on the northern part, does well in forestry. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Historic Villages of Shirakawa-gō and Gokayama has its roof steeply slanted and all the households face the East or the West. Gifu lanterns and Gifu umbrellas made from high-quality paper called Mino washi and mino-yaki pottery are the traditional crafts produced in Gifu. "Kurikinton" is the famous local food. This kurikinton is different from the one in osechi; it is not sticky.
