Commonly boiled, grilled, or roasted to eat. On the New Year, people make Kurikinton, a mixture of Japanese chestnuts and sweet potatoes, Youkan (a sweet jelly of adzuki beans), or Manju (Chinese bun). Considered as a staple item for Japanese autumn as well as baked sweet potatoes.
